Where?

Colima, Mexico

The capital of Colima, Colima, is a vibrant, traditional Mexican city. It's streets are filled with music and traditional food throughout the summer. GATE to Mexico is based a few miles outside of the city on a peaceful and colorful campus. A safe and friendly environment, Colima offers our students the comfort and peace of mind of a family oriented atmosphere.

When?

Who?

Eligible students: High school students with a cumulative GPA of 3 or higher, having completed a minimum of level 2 in Spanish. Students must be mature and responsible, creating for appropriate ambassadors of their school and country.

Leaders: Students are accompanied and supervised by the Program Director and the Trip Leader, who remain with the students for the duration of the program.

Host Families: Students are carefully matched with select host families. Families are selected by the Program Director to ensure a warm, caring home for each student.

Why?

Language immersion: Through a combination of language intensive classes, activities and adventures, students are exposed to and taught selected host families teaches students regional culture and allows for accelerated language acquisition. practical Spanish in context. A month-long stay in selected host families teaches students regional culture and allows for accelerated language acquisition.

Tuition: The tuition for this program is $2,875.

Payment: A $750 deposit is due on Friday, April 4th to reserve your position on the program. The remaining balance of $2,125 is due on May 12th.

Academics: Each day, students have two classes:

 

Spanish: Spanish language development is the focal point of the academic program. Each student is placed in a level-appropriate class with students of similar ability. Class size is between three and five students. Practical vocabulary along with precise grammatical usage is taught using interactive com- munication methodology. The material in the language classes is designed to compliment the Cultural Study classes.

Cultural Study classes: As a complimentary academic curriculum, Cultural Study classes are designed to explore Mexican culture through different Modules:

Module 1: (June 18th-21st) Agriculture: sustainable practices

Module 2: (June 23rd-27th) The Aztecs: archeology

Module 3: (July 1st to 4th) Local culture through art: ceramic

Module 4: (July 7th to 11th) Local biology: flor y fauna

 

Each Module is designed and taught by teachers from the region and include travel to visit the related sites of interest.
